RIPP: New Beginnings

Dear Fifth Grade Parents and Students,

I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer vacation and are now ready to begin the most educational, exciting, and engaging year your child has ever been a part of. To achieve success, we must work together. Parents, students and teachers, as a TEAM. In order for this to happen, I would like to inform you about myself, as well as a few of my classroom philosophies.

I am a proud graduate of Norwalk High School, class of 1996.  I earned my undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University, my masters degree in Elementary Education, and my Administrative Certificate from The University of Bridgeport. This will be my eleventh year teaching in the Stamford Public Schools. I have spent ten years teaching at Springdale Elementary School.  I taught third grade for six years and fourth grade for four years.  I was recently awarded the honor of Stamford’s 2014 Teacher of the Year.

One of my strongest beliefs in student voice.  All students understand they are a valued member of my classroom family.  Student voice gives them an opportunity to have control over their education and has transformed the way my classroom operates.  I’ve relinquished some control by giving back the classroom back to my students and involving them in the decision making process in the name of student achievement and engagement.

Technology integration is an integral part of how my classroom operates. My educational pedagogy revolves around the idea of utilizing a blended learning high tech/high touch philosophy.  Nothing will ever replace a great educator, but I will create learning experiences that were never before possible because of purposeful technology integration.  I can assure you that all the websites that are utilized are secure, private, and designed for educators by educators. More information will be upcoming as to the specific sites being used.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at jsapia@stamfordct.gov. My best wishes for an exciting, educational, and enriching fifth grade year!

Peace,
Mr. Jimmy Sapia
